GM will be recalling around 5,755 models of their 2011-'12 Chevrolet Corvettes. The reason for the recall according to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is reported to be the faulty hatch which at times could break up during a crash.
One of the spokesperson from GM confirmed that there haven’t been any reports of any major injuries or deaths because of the fault. He further told that the fault was reported during the testing for an impending European (Safety) standard test event.
As soon as the fault was found the company issued a stop-sale order for the affected vehicles, but later it was lifted.
In its recall summary the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that, the back hatch hinge of the car might not meet the essential load requirements that have been mentioned in the (Federal) safety standard. The rear hatch can separate in the event of crash, which increases the risk of injury.
